Greg's Electronics Repair Services

(We Service What THEY Sell!)

In 2008, I am changing my business focus for better efficiency. Greg's Electronics will concentrate on high quality after-warranty repair service to all makes of computers, and sales of high quality desktops, laptops, and servers. Service to some home and farm electronics will also continue.

Repair services I offer:

  • most brands of big screen TVs and video projectors
(dead sets, poor picture problems, convergence issues, tuner repair, etc.)
  • mid to high-end home audio equipment and speakers
(amplifier repair, speaker refoaming and crossover repair, receiver repair, etc.)
  • all brands of computers
(virus and spyware removal, hardware repairs, reformatting, data backups, upgrades, laptops and towers.)
  • some farm electronics (sprayer controllers, planter monitors, electric fence controllers, etc)
Repair services for all small audio video products has ceased as of this year.
This includes:
  • televisions smaller than 25"
  • DVD players purchased elsewhere
  • VCRs
  • portable audio equipment, including radios, 'boom boxes', and CD players.
  • personal audio equipment, including walkman/discman-style stereos, and MP3 players.
  • All CRT-type computer monitors
  • digital cameras

Q: What will it cost to have my unit looked at?

A: Estimates for computer repairs are free, and no deposit is required. Detailed technical diagnosis reports do have an associated charge if you wish to repair the machine yourself.
A: For any items other than computers, a $10 deposit is required on every job in advance. It is refundable upon repair, and goes towards diagnosis time, any long distance phone or fax calls for parts inquiries, technical support, etc. ($10 usually does not even cover 25% of these costs on most jobs) If you do not wish to have repairs performed, but want the unit back as-is, a $25 fee applies, to cover bench time for diagnosis and reassembly. Units that are brought in for repairs but are found to be in working condition are checked over and test run, and a $25 fee applies.

Q: How do I know I'm not going to get a bill for more than the machine is worth?

A: Simple. I don't want to do work that I'm not going to get paid for. Nobody is going to come and pay a $250 repair bill on a $200 TV. Besides that, I have to sleep at night! (This question seems silly to me, but it pops up with such frequency that there must be a genuine concern.) You can virtually always get an estimate before repairs are finished.

In very rare cases an estimate cannot be done before repairs are performed, such as for a unit that has been dropped, or subjected to smoke or water damage. In such a case, a "ball park" figure can be provided, but not an accurate estimate. Such situations are extremely rare (less than once a year) and you definately would be informed in advance.

Greg's Electronics Repair Services

(We Service What THEY Sell!)

All big screen television repairs are done in our shop. Sorry, I will not, and cannot do in-home TV repairs. There are no travelling TV technicians left, to the best of my knowledge, and due to the state of the TV industry, it's virtually impossible to do in-home TV repairs in this day and age.

Computer repairs can sometimes be done as a service call in your home or business, depending on the problem and requirements for doing the repair. Carry-in service is always welcome. Please call first.

Guarantees

Television repairs carry a standard 6 month warranty. This covers parts purchased from and installed by Greg's Electronics, and it covers the associated labour. It does not cover the entire unit. Some TV parts, such as generic flyback transformers, and picture tubes have longer warranties, but occasionally some manufacturers will have a part that is such poor quality that I will not guarantee it. (I am usually providing parts warranties out of my own pocket. Most manufacturers sell parts on an AS-IS basis, but some offer a 30-day warranty.) You can provide your own parts, but I will not back them up with any warranty at all. Over-the-counter TV parts sales carry no warranty.

Computer hardware repairs carry extended warranties on any hardware that was replaced, usually from 2 to 5 years on parts like motherboards and hard drives. RAM memory is usually guaranteed for life.

Software repairs, such as reconfiguration, wipe and reinstalls, or spyware removal cannot be guaranteed, as once your computer goes back home, I cannot control how it is used, reconfigured, or reprogrammed. If you are using an antivirus program purchased from Greg's Electronics, you will get our 90 day guarantee for your machine to remain virus free. No one else in the computer industry offers such a guarantee, to the best of my knowledge!
